Oh, the beautifully intoxicating smell of fresh coffee. There’s just nothing like it. Fortunately for area coffee lovers, Fairfield County and its neighboring towns offer some of the best coffee shops around, which include ideal settings and delectable treats.
Supporting small businesses is a big theme of mine. I love a good Starbucks drink, but buying my coffee from a locally owned business makes me feel so much more devoted to my true values. By visiting these small businesses, you get to know the owners and their passions. I love hearing their heart and the ‘why’ for their business.

Buckeye Lake Coffee Co.
A great cup of coffee, soothing water and a relaxing view is a perfect recipe to start your day. The Buckeye Lake Coffee Co. is located on the canal in Thornville which lends itself to an ideal outdoor setting. Inside, seating abounds with options both downstairs and upstairs on the loft. Both allow a full view of the canal from the large picture windows.
A second option is to take your coffee to-go and drive just a few miles down the road to Buckeye Lake State Park. Once you get there, you can park in the large parking lot and enjoy a stroll around the newly installed walking path that runs along the lake. It’s gorgeous.

L-city Pop Up Coffee
Once a mobile coffee shop, L-City has now moved into a brick-and-mortar location on North Broad St. Not only can you enjoy your food and drink inside, but you can also take it downstairs to the business center/game room. With many of us working away from our normal desks, the business center makes a great, quiet option. Printing services are available with your admission price. After 2:00pm, the area opens up for board games and the like. There are over 100 games to choose from. It’s a perfect opportunity to try out some new games and refamiliarize yourself with the classics.
Small environmental efforts can make a difference. For each drink purchase, you’ll get a hole punch on your coffee sleeve. Save the sleeve for each additional visit and you’ll be producing less waste and earning a future free drink. It’s a win for everyone.
L-City gets its beans freshly roasted from Laurelville which is just south of Lancaster.

The Well
What a gem this place is for the city of Lancaster. Working with the freshest ingredients available, breakfast and lunch are served up hearty and nutritious. The coffee beans are roasted in house and ground fresh with each order. I’d say their cappuccino is the closest thing to a true European cappuccino that you will find. The walnut/banana oatmeal and the nourishing bowl are two of my other favorites.
Children’s linen clothing, bulk teas, and many other natural items, such as honey, are for sale. There is a wooden treehouse in the back of the restaurant for children to enjoy. In the lower level, you will find an art gallery filled with paintings created by one of the owners.
