Have you dreamed of spending a day in Waco? Like many others out there in the world I, along with my sister and niece, love what Joanna Gaines can do with a home and we adore what she stands for in Fixer Upper, in Waco and in her family. A girls trip to Waco, Texas was a must. My niece didn’t think there’d be enough to do for a full day; I didn’t know if we’d be able to get it all done in a day. We found a happy contentment somewhere in the middle.

Kind of like Disney, the key to success is arriving early. This avoids so much time in line which opens up opportunities to see other places. Being the early A.M. hour of our arrival, the obvious place to stop first was the Silos Baking Co. Situated right there on the corner with the famous silos in the background it made us giddy just pulling up to it.
The bakery has their procedure down to a science to help keep the long lines moving. Ordering in line allows the decision making time without holding everyone else up who is behind you. The fun cupcake names are as tempting as the actual pastry. There are picnic tables outside but we opted to get back in the car and drive over to Magnolia Table to get our name on the waiting list. This is a must! We were told some days fill up completely by 10:00am. We were there by 9:00 and our wait was still two hours.
Antique Shopping
During our wait, we checked out some of the adorable antique shops along the main road. I can’t explain just how cute these displays are within the stores. They make you want to say “I’ll take that room” instead of just a certain piece or two. Junque in the Trunk was my personal favorite. They seem to be able to take anything rusty and make it look perfectly placed.
Magnolia Table
At last it was time to be seated at Magnolia Table. I was feeling adventurous so I ordered the juice flight. This consisted of four different blends of juices: Fresh Face, Fresh Greens, Fresh Start and Fresh Veg. Delicious! Such unique blends. The drinks were just the tip of the iceberg compared to the taste bud pleasing experience that was yet to come. I have never tasted eggs nor bacon that tasted so good. And the strawberry butter! I can’t wait to go back just to have another sampling. A very hearty breakfast that did not disappoint.
Attractions to Enjoy
With a full belly, we set out to explore some of the other highlights of Waco. Harp Design Co. is the shop that Joanna has Clint make a lot of her tables and other wooden specialty items. There’s not a lot to see but the gift shop is cute and offers some unique items.
Downtown Waco is the home to the Dr. Pepper Museum. The place offers a self-guided tour which I found to be very interesting. At the end of the tour you receive a complimentary can of, you guessed it, Dr. Pepper. If you make a “I’m a Pepper, You’re a Pepper” video PLEASE post it on my corresponding FB post! I tried to get my sister and niece to do one but to no avail. 🙂
Between the Dr. Pepper Museum and the famous silos there are multiple cute specialty and antique shops to browse through. Be sure to keep your eye out for fun murals to take your picture in front of as a souvenir.
Time for More Food
Finally, we made our way back to the silos, Magnolia Market and food trucks. The market is filled with everything you can imagine and then some. My find of the day was a heavy duty hammer that has DEMO DAY branded into the side. I can’t wait to use it on my next house rehab. The outside commons area offers a large green to relax on and enjoy. There are several food trucks that offer everything from Iced Tea to tacos. Picnic tables are available but the majority of people sit on the (fake) grass. To make things a bit more comfortable bringing a folded up blanket is ideal.
Overall, it was a fabulous day that flowed like clockwork. Not every excursion works like that so I savor the ones that do. We headed back to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to stay for the night. It’s an easy drive back and allowed us to be a lot closer to the airport in the morning.
If you’ve been to Waco, what are your ‘must see’ destinations? If you’re planning a trip, what tops your list of things you are looking forward to seeing or doing?
You lead a very exciting and fulfilling life. This looks like the perfect girls day! There isn’t a trip I’ve known you to take that wasn’t full of adventure! Can’t wait to see what you post next.
Thanks! I feel that traveling helps connect people in a way unlike no other.
